Does anyone know if there is a kit to rebuild a 1958 steering box? I am torn about what to do with my steering. The old PS system is there but will have to be rebuilt. I also do have a 58 box I could use. It may be best to put in a new PS box with an manual steering tie rod system. I think there are a couple of boxes out that can go in the system locations. Does anyone have any recomendations on ones they used? I saw a person on ebay was selling this one,

Tha same person on ebay is selling the adapter plate, he says that Quote (This is an easy, inexpensive way to convert your early Ford to power steering by adding a used or rebuilt steering gear from an Isuzu pickup, Isuzu Rodeo, Isuzu Amigo, Isuzu Trooper, Acura SLX, or Honda Passport. A complete list of compatible gears is included. You will have to shorten the steering column about 3" and add a steering coupler or universal joint.)

I've heard of that box being used, I can't remember anyone on this site trying it. Be sure to post results if you try it,  Mark

This is an old post, but has anyone actually tried this and how did it work out ? Definitely beats using even a rebuilt 55 year old box.

I contacted the ebay seller and asked what pitman arm is used and his reply was cut the Isuzu end off and weld on the Ford end to it. Not sure where one would find a welder willing to take on that liability.

I wouldn't sweat it, we welded pitman arms, spindles, tie rods for years on dirt cars. Wheel to wheel contact at speed and never broke one.

Most steering parts are cast steel and of a really good quality steel that welds great.

In the early days, speciality parts for lifted 4x4s, gassers, and customs were not available.  Welded a lot of parts with no failures.  Now days, I stay away from welding because parts are available.  Welding steering parts is not DOT and it spooks the **** out of some people.
