Hey guys, you get a chance go to Mecum Auction.com and check out the May auction in Indy--on Friday night is a '57 red and white Custom 2dr---WOW, 4.6l, Mustang dash, Lincoln leather interior-pretty cool!

Question is...will the guy recoup his investment of $150,000?

This car *could* increase interest/value in these '57 Fords.

Man...you could buy about 10 of my wagon for $150,000...*if you could find 10*!

I don't think it will sell for more than $80,000...not meeting the reserve if there is one. But, you never know at these auctions...this is not a car you see everyday, or ever at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson auctions.

Thoughts?

Cheers...

Indy is not the place to sell hotrods, even though Indy is the best place to sell 40s and 50s cars. If I was trying to seell a non-stock 50s Ford I would put it in the Dallas auction.

They have a few cars I really like coming up at Indy.  They are selling a black '57 Ranchero, and a really cool '56 Courier with an E-code 312.  The courier is really cool looking.

The Red/white Custom is really nice looking too.

I think this is the best selection of FORDS Mecum has had! Man did you see the 427 1965 2 dr?
I agree, probably someone out there might go to $100,000--anxious to see how this palys out!

Thanks for posting that Tom..several times when I was away from my computer I thought I'd try to remember to ask what happened at that auction. Encouaging to see those prices..outstanding cars deserving of the bidding....red/white Custom 82K and not sold..wow.

Well...I was close on that one!

Wonder of we will see this one on a Barrett-Jackson auction...where people seem to spend ridiculous amounts for cars that look really great on TV, but not all that special in-person. I noticed this when I went to a Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas a couple years back.

Thanks for posting...I am not near a TV this weekend. (Funny that I have internet connection, though!)

Depends on which way you look at it.

Anyway you look at it it's good...you sure wouldn't want to be buying one if the prices are steadily dropping

I don't buy cars or bikes with an eye towards selling them, only because I like them.  If the prices are down or lower I can more easily afford them.

This one would have sure been fun to attend! They will be here in Des Moines in July. Some of the highlights here include the collection of the late Charles Gabus- he was a long time Ford dealer here, and in Holdrege, Ne before that. Needless to say his collection is all Fords- but no 57's that I am aware of.
