Todays fuels sure make it hard on hot rodders. I think with the 428CJ heads and the stock 390 bore in this current motor the comp comes out to about 9.5. It runs OK on the crap California blend gas which is different than any other state, it's 10% ethanol and gods knows what else  :005:

Jeff this is a little late in the game....you could have had a bullet proof 406.  Use the 428 block, find a 391 heavy truck crank (they are forged vice cast), have the snout end turned to take a standard FE spacer and balancer, run a standard FE flex/fly wheel or a suitable after market piece, the rotating assembly is internally balanced as with all FEs except the 410 and 428s.

But....on one will know if you have a 332 or a 428 or any thing between.... :003:

Jeff that plate on the rear of the intake is for the PCV.  Ford used a "can" on the sheet metal plate that stuck into the valley.  There was a simple nipple on it that fed a "twisted" pipe that fed a PCV valve that screwed into the rear of the third carb base.  The front left side of the manifold should have a tube for oil fill and a breather.  The correct breather will have a wrap around sheet metal baffle that is designed to "catch" air from the fan.

Yes..I agree Bill... but....This 428 came all done and ready.. just a few simply tricks needed to get it together....BUT......If that 460 falls down on the Iowa Dirty Bird......This will be in the back of my mind........

Jeff the lower left diagram shows the "twisted" steel tube that connects the nipple to the PCV valve.

Couldn't figure a way to describe it to you, makes for a very clean installation.
