Wonder if I should replace my points with a PerTronix Kit. I have done it before on a different car/engine and liked it.

At Summit Racing they offer this:

- The Ignitor I P/N 1261 for $78.97 or
- The Ignitor II P/N 91261 for $118.97
- Plus the Flame Thrower coil P/N 40511 for $35.97

Not sure if I should use the I or the II.

Anyone done this on his YB ? Mine is a 312.

I would DO IT! It is the best change you can make in my opinion. There are other competitors but my Pertronix stuff is great. You can take the decal off of the coil and it all looks stock. I would convert to front disc brakes too as soon as practicle, the stock brakes are woefully inadequate to the point of being dangerous at todays highway speeds.

I have used the I and the II, no perceptable difference.

Disclaimer: You will get lots of opinions from the guys here. Mine is only one. WELCOME to the forum! :003:

I did it on my Y Block. Real simple to do and works really well. You may be able to find a better price on Ebay.

I've had bad luck with their modules and coils. i went back to an MSD box with a single set of points, works flawlessly up to 5800 rpm.

I have Pertronix on all of my cars that had a points type distributor. Always worked great and have never had any problems in many, many years of having them. BII

I have been running the I for years with no issues. 6500 rpm with no issues. Will be switching to the III to get the built in rev limiter.

Just be sure to use a 57 up distributor, 56 and earlier don't have the advancing feature.

I like an MSD box better. The rpm limiter is nice if you rev it.

Put one on my 312 in August it works great. I also have had one on my 65 Mustang for years with no problems.
