Looking for the clear plastic trim that came on my custom. Have 2 good ones. Need 2 more.

not clear originally. those thend to have the chrome fading after decades. they were clear plastic with chrome inside.
available as reproduction from all vintage Ford parts suppliers. sometimes NOS or NORS show up on ebay. Take care to get the right ones ( 2 different designs). Non back up lights cars have solid, wide trimrings and back up light cars ( mostly Fairlanes and special order on cheaper models) they have many cutouts to the side ( allowing  for the brake lights to brighten up the outer part of the lens. I think the Fairlane trim will go over the Custom (all red) taillight, but not the other way around.

I took the 2 good ones and put them on the same tail light. The one does show where it would've been chrome. Is this 2 piece design a factory thing? Or did grandpa cut them at some point?

Marc

Definitely not a factory thing. At some point for some reason somebody cut it. Factory was just one circular piece.

the plastic gets brittle from sunrays and snaps like nothing with age. Those are the wrong trims on your car. ( with the cut out areas on the circumference). They would  be for a backup light car ( with the clear glass lenses in the middle). you need the 'cheaper' model all solid rings. These here:
