Title: 57 fresh air duct
Post by: glenmichael on 2018-03-05 08:33
Hello Everyone, still removing the interior pcs. I found the passenger side air duct packed with mouse bedding, no wonder the flap would not open. The drivers side missing all together, are they the same? Does anyone have one for sale or can point me in the right direction?  Thanks

were you thinking about AC?  If you install a Vintage Air Gen IV unit, you will block off the right vent.  I drove the Custom several summers with just the left vent.  I never complained!

Hello Everyone, At this time I'd like to hook up the fresh air ducts and remove the heater and box also the fan motor and box and install delete plates on the fire wall for now. I also need the two delete plates, the list goes on! Once I start driving the car that AC might sound good.

Hello Everyone, Thanks for the information, I looked at both sites. The first was for (grill deflector panels)? The second is a plastic repo that can be finished, I take it the real Dash Delete Plate piece is hard to find? Thanks again for helping..

The problem with finding a dash delete plate is 90% of them had a hole drilled in the center for a fan switch when they were retro fitted later for a heater. I looked for months and gave up when I found the reproduction ones become available , which is really a nice piece.

Hello Everyone, Wanted to Thank Ray for sending the right and left fresh air duct parts I needed. They started in Dallas, Texas then mailed from California To be used in Florida. Love It. In preparing the boxes for paint I removed the open--close flap, interesting the way things were built in 1957!! I'll try to replace the rubber after paint..

Now the fun starts Glen. Thanks for the plug. Most of the people I know will simply replace the staples with pop rivets. I have done a few and always resorted to re-installing the original staples by hand. No one will ever see them but I just used to be stupid. Once you get your rubber parts you can decide. Have fun! Hello everyone, I have ordered all of the replacement rubber parts and the metal pieces are cleaned and off to paint. In separating the damper pieces I could not save the original staples, I think I can make new ones from an 18 gauge finish nail. The project goes on!

Hello Everyone, When I found this 57 ford it needed help. Maybe I should have looked for one in better shape but I felt this one would be the perfect candidate to build that Hot Rod I remember doing burn outs in the high school parking lot! I think I'm on my way. Ray if you have 12 extra staples that would be great, and I prefer to think of it as fun and being retired I have plenty of time to be stupid, just ask the wife..

The rivets Ford used are very stiff in order to penetrate metal without pre drilling.  They are hard to bend over especially in confined spaces such as window fuzzies.  I made mine from steel welding rod.  Adequate and much easier to work with.

Just an update, the fresh air ducts are back from paint. I also ordered the rubber from MAC's, the packages said, Made in USA, very nice and fit perfect. Thanks for the input and Ray for the part.. The left one is from Dallas and the right Detroit, different doors?
