I have a 460/ C-6 combo and updated the rear to a 31-spline locker. It looks to me like the original driveshaft could be the weak link. Is there anything out there that directly bolts in ? Shortening would be easiest and my other option I guess.

U-joints are the first weak link, need to beef up the input yoke on the rear, the output yoke on the tranny and all of this is assuming you have the suspension and tires set up to hook when the light turns green...

I have the Daytona pinion support and the short pinion yoke which uses the 1350 u joint.  Browsing through e-bay a newer crown vic uses an aluminum driveshaft, might be worth checking out.

Measured my stock 57 driveshaft and got 55", so I did a little research on Crown Vic driveshafts and they measure out at 55.5 from centre to centre front and rear u joints. They are made of aluminum matrix and balanced to 130 mph according to the P71 website. They use 1330 u joints so I could use a 1330/1350 hybrid and be good to go.....I hope.

I used a crown vic shaft in my last 57, and have one for this one as well...They work out great, lighter rotational mass too..

I got a Crown Vic. shaft out of an interceptor and it had Police lettered on the drive shaft, The guy at the drive shaft co. asked me where I got it. I told him The Donut Shop!!!!

The ones I've seen pictures of had "police" stamped on them to. Maybe the civilian crown vic's, Marquis, got the steel one.

You guys with the 55" driveshafts must all have Custom and Custom 300 cars.  I measurred my Fairlane yesterday, it is 57".  Makes sense, 2" difference in wheelbase between the series.

Ha ha ha.....That's Classic Tom.....
I was wondering what my driveshaft length  is going to be/... since the 390 and toploader are factory FOMOCO units.... Should I pic up one of these Crown Vic/Lincoln Town Car driveshafts at this point?..... or should I actually wait until I have the Engine / Tranny combo mocked up?

Jeff...try 88-up to probably 94 or so.  Later may work too but I haven't tried them myself.
