i'm not sure where i posted it on this forum,  but i gave the wrong advise about clearance between the air cleaner and hood,  i said i had 1 1/8" clnc,  WRONG,    i forgot about the inside hood supports,  and i had put the clay in the wrong places.    i found my mistake because i just put a `1" rizer in,  and it hit one of the hood supports,   so don't go by  what i said,     no more advise from me,  i don't know what i'm talking about,    jerry

   Don't let it bother you I have made lots of mistakes.
   I'm happy to see that you had the presence of mind to put some clay on it to get a reading.

No problem. I ordered a 1 inch spacer and plan to buy an Edelbrock low profile air cleaner to provide enough clearance. About $28.00 with shipping on Ebay for the air cleaner.

Here is a picture of the 1 inch aluminum spacer and low profile air cleaner that I installed on my Y block. Time will tell if it resolves the occasional starting issue.
