Title: Any suggestions re: motor size?
Post by: msfairlane500 on 2007-05-07 22:32
Can any one give me some idea as to how I can find out if I have a  312 or a 292 Y block Ford motor (1957) without tearing it down.

msfairlane500,
The way we do a FE block is by using a dowl rod to measure stroke. Place it in the spark plug hole and mark it at the bottom and top of the piston stroke. You have to take out all the spark plugs to make turning the engine over easy. It'll have to be precise measurements because you're only looking for .110 difference between a 292 and a 312.
