Pulling out the 4-speed behind my Y-block and going to a Mustang T-5, there are two I'm looking at #1 has a 2:95 1st gear --#2 has a 3:35/3:37 1st gear. I mostly drive around town and local cruise nites(200 mile radius),would the 2:95 be to low? I'd rather not have to shift to 2nd half way across the intersection! KID

all your T-5's are nuttin more then a 4 speed with overdrive in 5th. so, with that in mind ask yourself the question, how was first gear in the old tranny??? and what ratio was that???  of course that all hindges on what rear end gears ya have to. but if fist gear wasok in the old tranny , then try to get as close to that ratio as you can. just this guys opinion and a $1.95 will get ya a cup of coffee at the huddle house, lol

Kid:

I believe the T-10 in my 65 Mustang had the wide ratio 4-speed set-up.  It had a 2.78 1st gear, instead of the close ratio 2.20 1st gear.  When coupled with a set of either 3.80:1 or 4.57:1 rear end gears it left the line real snappy and was not too low.  All other things being equal my personal opinion, for what it's worth, is go with the 2.95 tranny.  Please keep us appraised on how the swap goes, as that is definitely on of the options I'm considering.

I have the 3.35 1st in mine, mainly because I had one left over from my last 5.0 project, and will use probably a 3.50 or maybe a 3.70 gear.  That is a pretty good combo.  My last 57 had a Tremec 3550 with the 3.27 1st, and with 4.11 gears, it was plenty snappy, but like you said, 2nd gear was right on top of you pretty quickly.   Best one in my opinion is the TKO 600 with 2.95 1st gear, in a T5, get the world class, or Zcode one with 2.95 1st.  Plenty tough for a 302 or mild 351.
