Title: replaced the regulator question
Post by: 6cyl57 on 2013-03-23 14:39
On my 57 which still has the generator. Do I need to " excite" the field or something like that ?
If so, how should I do it ?

Thanks, Jim

Disconnect the FIELD wire from the regulator then touch the FIELD wire to the BAT terminal briefly (about 2 secs.) at the regulator. Reconnect the FIELD wire to the regulator. Usually only needs to be done when a generator is replaced.

Oh boy. I am going to have to remember this. Or maybe get the alternator kit? which is easier?

You have to do it for the generator but apparently not the regulator.  Been ages since I had to do that.
Straight from a 58 Edsel service manual.  It basically says to disconnect the battery, bolt on a new regulator, connect the wires & go.
