Title: Caged nuts
Post by: terry_208 on 2024-03-02 19:25
ISO 24 each 5/16 X 24 J Type cage nuts. I don't find any on the internet. Does anyone have a source?

If anyone has the cage nuts, new or used, that they are willing to part with, I am interested.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the input and Rich, thanks for checking.

All I'm finding is the 5/16-18.  I may buy some and run a 5/16-24 tap into them but I'm not sure I'd get the grip needed, thoughts?

I have considered bending metal and welding fine threaded nuts to it.

Can you provide me a link, Please?  I can only find the 5/16-18 J type cage nuts.

I have checked all suggested sources and still can't find the 5/15-24 thread. On one call, the tech assistance had no clue what I was talking about.

I don't really want to change all the front clip's cage nuts to 18 thread bc the doors use 24 pitch threads.

Ebay #144737198443. Sorry missed the J part. If you are looking for 5/16 24 J-nuts, contact Roger in the Parts Section for some good  used ones.

AMK fasteners has them.  The Ford part number is 353418-S2 or 357252-S2 for the 5/16 24 cage nuts.  They do have a minimum.  I stock them for my own use.  If you need them and don't get a reply, let me know and I can sell you some of mine.  Dan

The locations that immediately come to mind are 8 connecting the inner/outer fenders, 4 securing the radiator to the core support, 4 hood to hinges, 2 bottom of fender to rocker panel, and 2 top of fender to cowl.  There are two more attached to the floor brace to accept the stud for the front of the front seat.  I'm not sure of this size, they might me 3/8-16 or some such.

I haven't...yet.  Tomorrow I'll try to contact a fellow in North Dakota.  He may have some used ones that are good.

I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to locate, even used, j type cage nuts in 5/16-24.  Of course, they are available in 5/16-18.  I'll next attempt to make my own in 24 pitch.

Hi Terry.  I reused the square nuts 5/16-24 and put them in the new 5/16-18 j-cages. Yes crazy that you can't find them. I just happened to have a box of the coarse size and swapped them over. Hope that helps cheers John

I'll check into doing that with the square nuts on hand. I'll have to look for more nuts in other boxes. Thanks for the tip.

I'll be taking a break from work on the 57 for a few days.  It's my wife's birthday and our anniversary.
