Title: Coil resistor smoking
Post by: 57 Ford Kustom on 2013-05-11 09:37
Guys, can someone help! I have a RF wiring harness, I wired the coil as per them, and smoke comes from the resistor terminals? Any help?

Guys, I figured it out, they sold me the wrong one. It was way to light for my Mallory coil, and distributor, thanks Tim

Dang Tim. I just saw this and the first thing I thought was " Shut 'er down! " Glad you found out the problem. Another thing, do you still need to run a ballast resistor?

Sprink, yes the Mallory is a points distributor. But, I ran into worse problems, my start soneloid malfunctioned, and feed  constant power to the coil. When I went out after shutting her down, the oil in the coil was boiling out! I also had a extreme over heat issue, even with a new aluminum radiator, and new high flow water pump! Sometimes you just wonder what you did wrong in your life to deserve a day like that!
