Steering Problem

Guys,
Tell me what you think. I went out to the hanger just now and on the way back I ended up with a 1/8 turn play in the steering wheel. I looked under the car while the steering wheel was being taken back and forth and the arm coming out of the steering box wasn't moving that much. I loosened the steering adjustment nut and turned the adjustment in about 4 turns before the slack went away and now it feels funny (not ha ha funny). I know the adjustment was right before. What did I do, what tore up in the steering box. Jim

Ajust the streening box to where it should be, then check the idler arm.

I would go back to the original adjustment and by a rebuild kit for the idler arm. I've never adjusted a steering box but by looking at the shop car manual its a little more involved than just taking up some slack.
