Title: Custom 300 rear window trim
Post by: Marc on 2016-04-14 14:40
What is the best way to remove the upper trim from the rear window on a 4-dr custom 300? The screws along the top are out, and it wiggles around but seems to be held secure by the corner trim pieces. Does it just come off with the window? Can't tell if the corner pieces are just clipped in place or screwed in from behind.

   Marc
The corner pieces just pop into place and are not screwed in from behind..  Try to massage them off without damaging them.  Since you have the screws out already, the top piece will come right off when you remove the corner pieces..    The  lower pieces come off with the rubber.

Thanks. Wanted to be sure before I caused any damage.

Usually, the rubber is old and hard.  You will likely damage the trim trying to remove from the old gasket.  Sacrifice the gasket with a sharp knife.  Gaskets are cheaper than trim restoration!  If the gasket is old and stiff, it probably needs changing anyway.

Yep, that's the plan. The windows are coming out for paint & headliner replacement, and it'll be new seals all around.

Not sure how to attach a pic to a PM, but here's a pic from before I started stripping it down.

Looks good Marc, thanks for posting the picture. Mine is the same color except the top color is the light green. If I am seeing right yours is white on top. I like your wheels. Maybe I should get some wheels like that for mine.  Good luck on your project. I forgot how those rear window corners came off and on, as I put new front and back glass rubber in, along with a new windshield a couple years ago. You can see some of my restoration pictures on this site if you want to.

Forgot to ask Marc, what engine are you running?

Thanks Don. Yours is a nice looking car as well. Mine has a 312 & 3 speed with OD. It's been wearing the same lousy paint, busted seat springs, and missing headliner for the last 30 years. Figure it's about due for some freshening up.

Mine has the 272 3 speed with overdrive and dual exhaust.  I just converted it to a Hurst floor shift so I could put in the  Borgeson power steering box. Will be done with that  project in a week or so, just in time for the warmer weather.

Don, do you recall the paint code of the paint you used to spray the dash?

Marc,
I re-painted every bit of interior trim including the dash. I used acrylic lacquer and I still have some left. The can states 57 Ford P. I assume that was the code. I bought it from an outfit in California and the can reads Restoration Shop Quality Automotive Products. The  product number is AL-TCP42107(C)  Address is 6695 Rasha St San Diego California. For some reason I couldn't get it mixed locally and had to go with them.  Distributed by TCP Global. I believe I got the code from the head honcho at 57 Ford.com.

Marc
I don't think P is the code. I believe that just means Poly. I will try to find their phone number if you want to go that route.
