A/C pics needed

I have Power Gens on almost all of my cars (6 out of 7).  They are pricey but I like the near original look of the unit.  You can get more for your money going with a modern alternator, but I like my cars to look factory if at all possible. 

I have a 1957 Skyliner with Select Air.  The unit came out of a 1957 Ford wagon and is unusual.  Everything matches the factory installation with the exception of the compressor.  Instead of being mounted vertically above the generator, the compressor mounts horizontally above the power steering pump.  The bracket is obviously a factory made unit as the ones I have seen for the ARA an other aftermarket units have the appearance of being made by hand.

Are you using an aluminum or iron compressor?

It is a cast iron compressor.  I can take a photo of the installation if you like.

Here are two photos of my engine bay.  NOTE, this has an unusual position for the compressor.  Everything else is like the book.  I have no idea why this one is different.  I took this off a 1957 station wagon.

That compressor looks like an early-mid 60's York style. This is the first one i've seen with this compressor style and and a 57 a/c/heater fan housing.

The AC COMP is MTD on a plate (2882)

The PS PUMP (EATON) is mounted with three separate brackets - 3562 - 3C511 - 3A732

When Ford changed from the 55-early 58 style compressor to the York style in mid 58 they had to mount it on the top left of the Y-Block. FE's are all top left mount.

The mount is exactly like the 58 set up.  What is odd is that the 58 uses the defroster area outlets are the 1957 style as the Selectaire for 1958 uses a unit that hangs below the dash to distribute the cold air.

Ford sold an A/C unit called Polarair that was a box under the dash.
All the Selectairs that I've seen have been in dash with the old style compressor mounted by the generator.
We're on the east coast so we didn't see hardly any factory A/C units back in the day. I got real lucky and found a parts car with a complete factory Selectair.

Yes, the Polar air was an underdash unit.  The Selectaire for 1955-1956-1957 was an integrated unit that came out of the dash however the Selectaire for 1958-1964 the Selectaire was an underdash outlet.  The Selectaire was again put into the dash in 1965
