What year did Ford stop putting the long narrow battery in the cars?

Hoosier Hurricane

I believe it was 1960 in Ford cars.  I don't know about any of the other Ford products of that year.   John

I'm going to put mine in the trunk of my Fairlane, just to clean up the engine compartment. Going into one of the storage boxes in the Couriers...same reason. FWIW.

The battery will fit behind the headlight.

When I added AC, the pump wanted to be right where the battery sat.  The Raunch Wagon didn't have a truck and I didn't want to rewire the whole car.  I added a battery tray with longer and bigger cables.  I only use AGM batteries so no vent/acid issues.

Another option is recessing it into the fender well. I needed to move mine to the left side and recess. I just couldn't wrap my head around putting it in the trunk.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

That is a really great idea. I wish I had thought that up! When I bought my car the battery was in the trunk, I moved it to the stock location bought the correct battery, battery tray, etc. Then I put a big alternator in the car and had to move the battery back to the trunk (I thought). Darn, but I ain't moving it again!

Moving the battery to the trunk can be quite simple or get very complicated.

to gasman,    like the idea of battery in wheelwell,  how did you ever support it?

Not much for even a 6-pack in there.

Full sized Fords and pickup trucks used the 29NF battery from 1956 through 1964.  After 1964, the full size vehicles used the 24F battery size  The Falcon, Fairlane (the small version) used smaller batteries than the full size models.
