George Barris..was the King..... George passed yesterday.89 years young.
He sure put a massive dent in this Hobby and built some big Icons in the business.

RIP George. In my younger years I use to go by his shop in N. Hollywood occasionally for inspiration for custom model cars I would build and enter into a local hobby shop monthly contest.

Yep...the Batmobile was probably the first car I was taken by. Probably the reason I like cars with cool fins...like the 57 Ford!

When my mom and dad got divorced in the early '60s he left behind a complete set of Hot Rod Magazine from '49 to '60 something. I memorized all of them, Barris was truly "King". All things must pass.

Truly a legend.  Of course, there were several other famous builders back then and even more around today, but his work always stood out from the rest, above all, he was a "craftsman" that didn't have the internet and shiny parts catalogues at his disposal, if he wanted something, he made it and from what I've seen he made it to a better standard than a lot of the stuff we buy from those shiny catalogues!
