The window in the Fairlane 2 drht can be removed without taking out the vent assembly.  Forget the book, it is incomplete.

With the door panel removed....remove the nut (9/16) and lock washer under the large rubber plug on the front of the door and turn fully in the capture screw.  Remove the phillips head screw that ties the front of the vent assembly to the door.  Remove the nut (9/16)and lock washer just under the bolt (1/2) that pinches the assembly between the door outer skin and the inner structure, turn that capture screw fully in.  Loosen the 1/2" bolt that pinches the assembly just enough to let it wiggle.

Remover the 3/8 bolt holding the vent window channel to the inner door skin.  The vent window should roll towards the front to the car.  Next roll the window down after removing the lower stop and remove the rollers.  Remove the upper stop.  Push the window up and as it reaches the top of it's travel roll the vent assembly forward slightly and pull up on the window.  It will fight a little as the "water flap" in the lower channel tries to pass through.

Obviously reverse the procedure for installation.  This works as I have just accomplished the reassembly of the Edsel doors with no runs, drips or errors!  The door weather strip don't even know the vent was moved and stays in one piece.
