Have an old set of Centerline auto drags that have their share of nicks and scrapes. So I thought what would a coat of semi-gloss wheel paint look like.
Actually I don't mind it. I think it updates it it a bit.

I like them black, especially with the little "bullets" left shiney.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

These are the tires that came on my Mustang when I bought it in 1977, Eliminator L60-15's and I'm not going to be using 43 year old tires. I have a brand new set of 275 m/t drag radials.
Masking the rivets worked out well with a 7/8 hole punch and masking tape. Takes about 10 minutes a wheel.

I normally do not like black wheels.  I guess I'm just too old because I see lots of modern vehicles "Blacked Out".

I really like the look on your car.  Taking the time to mask the rivets made all of the difference.

I agree that old vintage tires might look good on a "trailer queen", but have no place on any race car.

Love the Dresden Blue, same color on my Ranch Wagon.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

It's kind of what I was concerned about, black wheels may look to importish also, but I do see a number of older cars with them. Another thing I wasn't to happy about was running the 275 on a 7" wheel, much better on the 8.5 Centerlines. Plus I cut off 45 lbs. just from the changeover. This is just for the track, I have bfg's on the steel wheels for the street.

Looks sharp. Some cars the black works on others...eh...not so much. Yours....it works!   :glasses9:   :burnout:

Personally not a big fan of black painted aluminum wheels, but then I guess I guess I`m a bit of a dinosaur, as I have had the same polished Centerline Auto Drags on my Fairmont drag car got over 30 years. I remember those Centerlines on your black Boss 429 Mustang, Randy, I seem to recall you had them on your 70 429SCJ 4 speed Ranchero briefly as well, correct? As least if you decide to go back to the natural aluminum finish, or polish the AutoDrags, should not be  huge deal to strip off the paint. Be interesting to see ow much the light wheels help at the track. Mission Raceway is supposed to finally open these weekend, but looks like rain is expected.

I bought these Centerlines at a Supershops in Van Nuys in around 1978. Yes, I did have them on the Ranchero until I went with the Boss 302 hubcap / trim ring setup. No way I was going to powder coat them, if I decide to back to the natural finish some lacquer and a rag will do it. I had a look the Mission schedule and there are no street legals or old time drags but it could change I suppose.

Looks sharp! I personally avoid chrome so I don't have to polish it.  Haha
