Seen the Widow Maker and the Ugly Tractor perform.  With no clutch, the engine was direct drive to the rear wheel.  One of the early runs, the engine got so hot the spark plugs started to melt and turning off the ignition did nothing.  He laid it down at 130+ mph!!  Later models had a fuel shut off.  To hear the Ugly Tractors twin Allison V12s wound up and under full load....
