Howdy,
Did a search through the site but didnt find what i was looking for.
Which decal goes on a 292 town sedan to fancy up the valve covers? Red block, black covers.
C&G says this one,
https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/fordpart.php?number=DF136
...but i normally see this one most other places.
https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/fordpart.php?number=DF71
DF 70 would be my choice. The Thunderbird special and interceptor I think were used only on 312's.
292 was the "Thunderbird V8", 312 was "thunderbird Special V8"
Maybe Canadian cars were different, but I do not recall ever seeing any valve cover decals on our Y Blocks. Granted all 3 of mine were 1957 272s, but my buddy has a 57 with a factory 312 4 barrel that he has owned since 1967, and it has no stickers either.
Perhaps this one?

Previous owner did reference it having a thunderbird engine, even though by that time, any thunderbird markings had been clearly replaced by squirrel nests.
This one also seems to agree with wiki, ...everybody knows wiki is never wrong.
Just looking to not get it completely wrong.
I used the Thunderbird V8 on my 292.
My 57 with 312 has the DF71 Thunderbird Special decals but I have always wanted to get some one to make me a set in the exact image but instead of saying Thunderbird will say "ThunderRoad" Special I think that would be so cool!
I believe this is the correct decal for the 57 212 HP 292.

I second that motion.
Guys; you need to talk to Jeff about that decal that doesn`t exist. I`ll bet he can make it happen. Have no idea on cost , but I do know he has a source for custom decals. Are you listening Jeff? We will need the Norwell Equipted in the bottom corner. Gary

Ron.
Not Thunder Road, but this is exactly what I have on my og Paint 292 valve covers
Guenter
When you get a spare moment, please email me a picture of that air cleaner.
Jeff
Do you have an air cleaner like this?
I think we need to send G a can of black paint and decals for Xmas :003:
its got thunder in it
Swank ! That's exactly what I'm talking about. Have you got them printed yet?
Pretty swanky!!
That looks very cool indeed !

Thx Jim, but I think I have collected about every Y block decal set, ever used on them. I even have a set of chrome covers and a set of og ones, freshly powder coated black. Even a set of M E R C U R Y lettered and chromed originals, along with a set of og Offenhausers. I just can't get myself to put them on the all og paint engine in the CS... :003:....
Looks like I'm going to have to dump my very incorrect rocker covers and start searching for a set of steel ones. I need to be prepared for when the new T R decals come out. Might have to invest in some argent paint for the air cleaner also.
I used to do commercial graphics for one them large telco companies for about a decade. Fonts are different, but i kinda like the "special" font a bit more than the original for this application, ...it's a little zippy'er.
Dont know where to get high heat decals printed. What kind of heat are we looking at dealing with on them things anyways?
If anybody knows of a printer, i can supply industry standard files in their preferred format. In meantime, i'll check around just for fun.
If your taking orders I'll take a couple sets! Those are toooo koool fer schooool !!

That reminds me, I have a set of the chrome covers I would like to paint black. Do you have a home brew for removing chrome?
Jim
Massachusetts has something for removing chrome. It's the stuff that they spread on the snow and ice in the winter. It also removes body panels and frames. HAHA
hahaha.... we got lots of that as well. :003:
you could leave them outside, but honestly - these aftermarket rocker covers are really flimsy and will even get thinner with the chrome removed. also they don't have the inner strip to hold the gaskets in place. Not even worth trying to strip the chrome and painting them. They do look good on the wall or on the shelf.
Original Y block valve covers are still plentyful. on ebay all the time, or I am sure somebody here on this forum will come up with a decent set.
I did chemically strip my og set and had them powdercoated. on this set I used the 1956 decals because of their chrome looks.
Sorry for partly highjacking your thread Swank, but I think it's somewhat on topic.
here's some variations and my final version.
No issues at all. Valve covers, ...the fancier the better.
Your OG 292 photo solidified my decision on the decal, as my covers were 90% rusty, they had to get redone.
