Well my dream has finally come true, I've purchased a 1957 Custom two door.  I'm currently in the process of having it transported across the country to my home.  The car is currently a 223 three speed and a decent driver.  My plan is to eventually install a 312 and then down the road do a frame off restoration after I retire.

My question is does anyone have a good underhood photo of a '57 with a stock 223 six cylinder engine?  I'm going to leave the 6 in there for a little while and would like to paint the valve cover & air cleaner the proper colors.  Right now the air cleaner is a light blue which I'm unsure if that is correct.  The valve cover is red which I believe is correct.

Thanks for your help and I'm looking forward to spending more time here on the forum.

Cool deal and congrats, Jody.  One of our members here has a cool old 6 banger Custom 300, had it for sale, not sure if he sold it.  He always documented everything with photos, so he should have some good engine shots.  His user name is 6cyl57, his first name is Jim.  You can search on here for him to get his contact info.

From my best recollection and that could be dangerous. My first 57 had a 223, engine was red, valve cover was black and air cleaner was Argent. Ford didn't use any blue on engines until 1966.

In 1960 the cylinder head and valve cover design changed, the blocks were black and the valve cover was red..

Thanks Lynn, thats the way I recalled it. For some reason I was thinking the pushrod cover was also black, but my memories are fading  :005:

Thanks for the response guys.  Here is a photo of the engine currently.  Sure looks like factory paint here but who knows.  I will eventually make it match the brochure.

Thanks!!

Looks like it was upgraded to a dual master cylinder.
