Title: spark plug questons
Post by: tully on 2009-07-19 18:56
 Spark plug questions

I started the tune up the 59 Ranchero I bought, pulled a few plugs and found the new ones don't fit. The 292 engine had Champion H18Y plugs in it and the new ones I got were Autolite AP46 as listed at auto parts stores . The treaded ends are too big.(fat)

Champion H18Y fit Nash,Hudson,studebaker

Any ideas on my plug holes??????

Standard plug size are 18mm- I,m using Autolite 45's,for more tune-up info check out John Mummert's web site(www.FordY-Block.com)--click on Y-Block(white letters)then "Tech info" then "Tune up Specs" will tell you different plug types and heat range--point gaps--timing settings, etc. Hope this helps! Dennis:

Two possibilities.  There are adaptors made to screw into the 18 mm holes to take the 14 mm plugs.  Look and see if that's what you have.  The other possibility is that the heads are off a '54 engine, or the whole engine is a '54 239.
