ok I aquired a 71 429 from an ltd . what glaring problems am I looking at to install this engine & c6 into my 57 fairlane ?
help appreciated . Ken
Notch the cross member for C6 oil pan clearance. Left CJ exhaust manifold to clear the steering box.
Easy way is to buy the swap kit from Crites restorations. Headers, motor mounts, trans crossmember.
Your stock cooling system may need upgrading to.

Cooling is probably the biggest issue. Check out how close that clutch fan hub is to the radiator!!
If you can find '69-70 429 pulleys and brackets, short water pump helps.
I was going low...Crites headers hang too low.
Thanks ,I think Crites will be a big help but my car is low also , gasman is a cj manifold easy to find ?
The cobra exhaust manifold will bolt up but there will be a big port mismatch. There are a couple sets on eBay now, but not cheap. I'm not positive but I think F.P.A. Builds a shorty or tri-y style header for that application. My rad support is trimmed a bit to set the rad in a little further so I could use a fan clutch and it does have the short C8SE water pump. There is about 3/4 inch clearance.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Torino-Mustang-exhaust-manifolds-SCJ-CJ-manifolds-cobra-jet-429-460-/300952801415?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item46122f5087
All CJ parts are rare and expensive.
Sanderson also makes shorty header. Header fitment is critical to engine and trans mounting position. I talked to FPA tech support about which engine mount system they used for their header. NO help! FPA had a no return policy and I didn't feel comfortable with experimenting. I wanted something special so I decided to go with fender well exit headers. I had them made by the same company that designed and supplied Crites headers. Came out great but pricey!

It looks like the steering box might be the biggest issue other than fore and aft clearance .
I might think about getting rid of the box and going with rack & pinion .

That fixes the problem and a lot more.
