I have been toying with the idea of using a tremec 5 speed with a deep O.D. hooked to a 390 in my 57.
Anybody know if this will be difficult(trans crossmember)or(tremec hitting the top of the 57 floor?)
I most likely will use a hydralic throw out bearing.....
I may use a top loader..but they are pricey around these parts... and I really plan to use the car on long distance road trips...so the fifth will come in very handy.

Any suggestions, anybody been down this road?

Thanks

I use a TKO.   The wide ratio one with the highest fifth and lowest first.

I have 30" tall rear tires(20" rims) and run 4:11's.  Perfect for my car. You can use 3:89 if your tires are shorter.

It cruises at 75mph at 2300 rpm, and 2000 under 70.

I get 18+ mpg on the high way with the supercharged Y-block.

It works perfect, and even I have not been able to break it.

I used a new vintage style Hurst shifter handle on top on a late model mustang hurst short throw shifter tower with positive stops. This makes the long handle have the right feel.

I almost forgot, the TKO will bolt right to the original FE (390) bell housing.   You want to have the short input shaft put in the trans, the vendor of the tremec can do that when you order it.

No need for any fancy bellhousings. or exotic linkages.

A Center Force or any  10.5 to 11 clutch with the correct splines will work.

Just use ford stuff....

Jeff,
Just thought I'd add a little something to this thread. You'll throw rocks at every transmission you had before the wide ratio TKO. Jim
