snap, tick, smoke

Guys, I need a little help. I have a 5.0 EFI roller motor in my '57.
I was just driving along at 40-45mph, when I heard a snapping sound under the hood-almost like a twig breaking, then it began to tick, run a little rough and puff white smoke from the left tailpipe (no crossover).

  Broken rocker/valve spring ? Pull the rocker cover, good place to start looking.
