I know it is not REALLY cold here but we have had a few days where the temps didn't get out of the 30's in the day and the low 20's at night. I woke up in the middle of the night worried about the '57, (no antifreeze)! Well I started the car up yesterday to find the water pump frozen up, it wouldn't turn...poured hot water on it and freed it up. Next I noticed the radiator was completely frozen so I ran the car for a while, even the rear needle and seat in the carb wasn't working right. The water temp got to 200 and the electric fan wouldn't cut on because the thermocouple in the radiator was still in ice. I over rode the thermostat on the fan and the ice finally melted in the radiator! After running the engine a bit the carb finally straightened out... no leaks anywhere, so I think I dodged a bullet. This was the first time I have ever experience stuff freezing in any car here in south Louisiana. BTW I did put antifreeze in the car! :003:
Very lucky! Besides freeze protection, coolant is an anti-corrosive/rust and raises the boiling point for next summer driving.
Cold Snap still here..and this weekend coming at night.... -19-22 Below..... that ain't metric.
Tons of snow on the way too!..Thank god for my John Deere!
You were very lucky, Lynn !
Think about freeze cracking the engine block ....ouch...that would have been nasty.
20 below Jeff ? that's cooooold..... brrrr.....
Sorry to gloat but we're 28 degrees here (but that's Celsius). Middle of summer.
Yeah, go figure, Lynn. Yesterday and today I was up in the mountains Colorado. Today I was walking around a salvage yard for two hours.....in just a shirt. 52 degrees when I left there for home. No snow anywhere in the mountains to be seen.......at least that I saw along the eastern range of the Rockies. Very unusual.
Only 75 in Mesa AZ today.

Good to hear from you and see your '57 in Florida. Great picture...except there's no tire smoke.
Hello Gary, I had to try that posi-unit, layed down 25feet of rubber, scared some old lady and the park I live in said (NO MORE!!) I'll be back to Mi. in July-August, maybe Woody and I can visit your 57, I'd love that!
Look forward to see you guys next summer if not sooner. Too cold to go anywhere except to shuffle out to the shop. There is something said about 'not crapping where you eat'. Go a couple of blocks from your condo before testing.

Ron.
-8 Below here this morning still.... Last night was the worst yet.... Tonight as well.... Daytime high today is -3 below(this is F) Tonight will be cold again.. next week up to 25-33 F... with snow.
its been 0 for the last 3 or 4 days around Detroit, supposed to be close to 40 monday, can't complain, look at the last 2 or 3 years, mild winters
Suppose to be 58 here today. I've got the nephew coming over with his pickup to finally go get my compressor from the old house. Yay! I can handle temps in the 50's!
1 degree this morning, wind chills down to -20's. It hasn't been above freezing since Christmas. Supposed to hit 40 by Tuesday so yeah I'm ready for that.
The older I get, the less I like winter, except for the part about going skiing with my grand kids. It has been beautiful here in Lethbridge for the past two days now, as we get chinook winds from over the rockies that bring us warm weather, like plus 7 C today, about 45 F.
BUT, a couple days ago, it was like minus 52 with the wind chill from the North. Actual temperature broke minus 40 which we haven't seen in quite a few years now. All these nina and la nina weather things, usually make our local weather warmer in the winter, and quite bearable. I remember when I was a kid it seemed like it was always 44 below zero, all winter.
Last week the temp went up to 15 degrees and it actually felt warm after having nothing but below zero temps.
