Have a bad leak coming from real seal (rope type?) Does anyone have any information on replacing, source, etc. Thanks John

This problem has been around forever and is especially common with Y-Blocks. The rope seals were not all that good even when the cars were new.  I replaced so many of them back in the day that I got pretty good at it.  They make a tool called a Chinese finger that allows you to replace the seal without dropping the crank.  It works OK but is still a big time PIA.  If your leak is small I wouldn't mess with it.  If it's big (common) go the special tool route or drop the crank and do it the right way.  It is also possible that you have excessive crank wear, which can also cause the seal to leak.  Check the Y-Blocks Forever forum at http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/ for more info.  I am sure others on this forum will have more to add.
