Quote from: Jeff Norwell on 2024-11-08 07:21I used a 60 Ford electric wiper on my 2nd 57... and Bill is correct, I had to make 2 little metal spacers to move it away from the firewall to clear the body seam/lip.
It really works well and is a 2 speed, auto park and is a bolt in.

I did use a aftermarket unit on my first 57, the Unit from Newport Engineering.... but I believe they are over $300 now.a very good alternative.
I never had any luck with the factory vacuum system.....

I was born in 1957, so I can`t say how well the vacuum wipers worked when the cars were new, but I do remember as a 9 year old in 1966, my Dad swearing at the vacuum wipers on the family 58 2 door Ranch Wagon (6 cylinder automatic), especially going up hill. And my 3 57 Ford cars, and my 59, all had vacuum wipers, with the 2 stage "booster" type fuel pump, that was supposed to help the wipers to work better, but they were all still very poor. They do work really well, when coasting downhill though! I couldn`t imagine having those vacuum wipers if you lived in a hilly or mountainous area, when you may have a steady uphill climb that could be several miles long, or towing a trailer.

Found it I interesting that Shelby called the 68 a Cobra GT, Mustang not mentioned in the car name.

Most of the 50s big Fords that I remember in yards in the early 60s, dump trucks and busses, had 6 bangers in them.  Reason I was in those yards back then was looking for Oldsmobile engines.  International used the Olds engines in a lot of HD trucks and they were much "stouter" than the passenger car equivalent.  They were a bolt-in replacement for the passenger version.  Just needed to add a 4bbl.

Used the 60 motor on the 58 Edsel.  They were still an option in 60.  My 61 Comet has a vacuum motor, electrics were available then as an option in the Comet, not sure about the Falcon.

That Ranchero was really out there, but that was the trend in the day.

In more importantly new check this old film, its got the wild Tiago Ranchero as the Space Ship version driving in Salinas.
Imagine driving the 2023 Mache but crazy customized, it crazier than that ugly Cybertruck.
