Title: Scratching my head...
Post by: mustang6984 on 2018-02-17 01:04
I let my '57's sit for 40+ years while I did other things (life I think it is called)...and I have forgotten some things. (a lot actually...but that is a topic for another day  :002:) primarily at this point, how the transmission cross-member was attached to the frame. I have holes, but no threaded fittings inside the holes for bolts to screw into, and the holes don't match up to holes on the other side of the frame so they don't appear to be pass-through bolts. I CANNOT remember if there were threaded fittings in the frame or not. If there were...they are gone now.
Help please.
(God this is kinda embarraskin... :help1:

You should have threaded fittings in the frame. I don't know how they could go missing, major rust out?

Made these and welded them in.  Works well.

Missing and stripped out bungs must be a not too uncommon thing.  When I disassembled my car, one of the bungs, the welded in nuts, was missing, one had been stripped out, and one had been drilled out and an oversized bolt inserted that reached through to the outside of the frame.  My solution was essentially the exact same.

No actually no serious rust other than the expected surface discolo0oration. Entire frame cleaned up real well with a stiff wire wheel attached to a heavy duty hand grinder. and no obvious damage to the area where they should be either. A true head scratcher.

I like that solution. Think that is where I'll go too then. Thanks.
