Not sure I would want to take that car to Afghanistan today...not for a test drive or any other kind of drive! LOL!!! My how times have changed. Think...back in '58 most people had probably no idea where Afghanistan was or anything else about it.

Hey, in2019 most people don't know where Afghanistan is, or Viet Nam for that matter.  Most likely they can't find their own home state on a map......a bunch of college students interviewed didn't know what the 1st Amendment is.  Real education has now been replaced with courses in advanced basket weaving.....

The previous picture gave me a flash-back to getting a free ride to the Detroit Federal building.  The Michigan State troopers escorted guys in chains.  After they were sworn in, the troopers chains came off and the MPs chains went on with a gentle reminder 'you're Army property now...your ass is mine' as they were escorted out to the buses headed to Fort Knox.

True enough sadly. My son is 26 and still complains about not learning much in high school because it just wasn't taught. He has said more than once that he learned more about things like American history and the Civil War from me than he ever learned in school. That...is a sad state of affairs to say the least.

Tin cans is what my father called cars of the 1950s, he was head of Packard parts here in Connecticut from late 1920s to the early 1940s.

Some kind of Air Stream convention?

The founder of Airstream Wally Byram put together a extended trailer rally/caravan that traveled all the way to La Paz the tip of South America.  I believe this was done in the late 1950's.  I would bet that's where this photo was taken, and was likely in some very deserted area without passable roads.  I wonder why all of the auto and trailer windows were open, maybe they stayed inside the autos and trailers while they were in transit? 

It's a pretty cool photo with the '57 Fords.
