Title: Erratic Power Steering
Post by: thomasso on 2022-07-18 09:53
My Master Glide PS will occasionally want to self steer to the stop when parked and sometimes when driving will need assist to return. Only happens once and awhile, but kind of makes me nervous.  Original cyl, valve has been rebuilt with a later spool valve which uses two larger seals as opposed to 57 valve witch has one larger seal and a smaller one. Has worked fine and has been leak free.  Any thoughts?

That sounds like a problem with the control valve.  Did you just change the spool or is this a different valve with a different spool?

Just changed the spool. It was identical except both ends where the seals ride are the same size.  Valve wouldn't interchange, think it was from 63 torino.

I would go this site:  http://www.stangerssite.com/CanIEatonPump.html  He has contact information on the website and is very knowledgeable about these early systems.  I have used him to rebuild components of my power steering system and I have always been happy with the quality.  He runs a one man shop, but he will talk to you on the phone and give you good advice.
