Post by: deucekoop on 2010-11-05 02:53
I am lowering the front of my 57 retractable. Ihave been told you can use grenada spindles. Here is where im confused, what year model spindals and where can i find them. Can the original steering arms fit, can you retain the original brakes.how much do the spindles lower the car as i wish to retain as much travel in the suspension as possible

Sounds like you should buy just the dropped spindles. Granada
or Torino give you disc brakes. The steering arms are part of the
spindle. I can't give you an accurate measurement on the lowering
because I have cut springs as well. Mine are 71 or so Torino spindles
and I am happy with the change. Just ream the hole in the steering
arm a little or regroove the slot in the castle nut where it tightens
up.

If you use the aftermarket dropped spindles ( Fatman, etc. ) they are set-up to use dics brakes.Fatman sells a complete disc brake kit, everything you will need to complete the brakes. He offers a 2" drop and a 3" drop, direct bolt on,no reaming required. The disc brake kit is Granada.I think Drop & Stop also sells droped spindles and disc brake, but I dont know anything about them. The Fatman 3" dropped spindle and disc brake set-up is what Im using on my custom 300.
