Title: Merc 428 info
Post by: Lakeland66 on 2020-10-16 10:13
Hi All,
In the process of getting my 57 2dr road ready, it has a 292 with a auto. Just got a lead of a fellow that has a Merc. 428 with a c6 trans both in good shape. Any problems with in stalling this set up into my car?

Take a look at "FE into '57". It's two threads below yours.

Mine has a 4 speed. The FE engine was introduced in 1958 and installed in the '58 models as an option. They have the same frame and basic body as 57s so this swap is almost factory. I have no idea of mods (if any?) are required for the C6. My 428 is out of a Merc as well! In my opinion this swap is meant to be. The engine weighs about the same as a Y block.

Thanks guys,
Good to know that the engine is a drop in.
Next have to find out if the c6 will bolt right in or would require some mods.

The c6 will bolt up to the cross member but you will need to notch the cross member for the trans pan clearance.

I will try to get a picture of what it will look like

Will the stock shifting linkage from the steering column down work with out mods?
