I'm sure your aware, but the long ones are 427 parts and the short ones are 406 parts. Either set are mucho bucks and hard to find not beat up. They were getting up in the $1000 range for clean ones not that long ago. Good luck on the hunt though, I know a few guys that are also looking for them and have been for awhile no luck so far though. Keep an eye on eBay, they do tend to pop up there every now and again. And I agree that the FE forums are very confusing, but the knowledge that can be had over there on FE stuff is well worth the annoying forum layout, and you can get used to it, just takes awhile. Most of the guys there are also at FEpower.net, and that has a normal forum layout, just doesn't get the traffic the other one does. Maybe that will work for you though.

Yes. aware of the parts and the cost these days....Small 406 are for me..427 longs are for a friend.
Thanks for the tip on the second forum.I will check it out.
Please don't think I was bagging on the FE Forum.... just very hard for me to read......
thanks!!

Oh I don't disagree, trying to navigate that forum is absurdly hard. But being able to talk directely to guys that worked in the casting foundries that cast the FE blocks, guys that worked on the experimental and factory race programs specifically there for the FE engines, and then having access to guys that worked with the top name racers back when they were racing the FE, far far far outweighs the aggravation I get from trying to have to read through that forum. Those guys have forgotten more about the FE than most people will ever know. I'll take the aggravation in return for the wealth of true factual knowledge, as well as the help you can get from these guys picking parts to build the best possible engine from people that have literally been there and done that, and have been doing it since day one. Just my opinions of course. When you check the other forum, I think its on the front page, the guy that runs that forum literally wrote the book on FE intakes and what works good and what doesnt work so good. And I do mean literally, The Great FE Intake Comparo, or something like that, by Jay Brown, that's his forum. Good luck on the header hunt, if I see anthing I will be sure to pass along the info for ya!!

I totally agree!
The internet/message board can be a funny thing.... much can be taken the wrong way.. not like to guys just chatting. :001:
I had no idea that FE board had so much knowledge and talent....I will muddle thru and try to find my way thru.....and thanks very much for keeping your eyes open!

No worries Jeff, I've been around forums enough I can figure most anything out. But your right it is different, not like talking. But no problems either way, here's a link, not a lot of what you want, but it could be a start if you so choose.   :001:

Jeff, be careful of the shorties...I have heard a couple guys have modified them or the steering box to run them, and a lot of folks say they won't fit at all.  Now, straight from John Vermeersch of Total Performance (Ford guy from way back), he says they won't fit without a lot of work, likely damaging or even destroying the cast iron header.  He said he tried it a long time ago, and frankly, back then, cheap headers were available, and it wasn't worth the effort.  Do a lot of research before you commit to these expensive parts.  A guy on the FE forum sent me photos of his that he had made work a while back, and to be honest, they were a Frankensteined up mess, used a lot of nickel rods and arc welded them up, ruined the driver side.  The passenger side needed only a little grinding.  The manifolds looked so bad, I didn't keep the photos.  A, I wouldn't have cut up and ruined such an expensive and hard to find part, and B, I wouldn't have run that butchered up stuff on my Ford.  If you can find someone with a set that they will let you borrow and mock up before you buy, that would be ideal.  Good luck.

Yes James.......I am on the fence about these.....
In fact.. the route I am going with my 57 ....I may have to figure out a new strategy..... I really don't want to go to any tube header (aftermarket)...
This(in my grand plan) is the weakest link...... much thought is needed.
I still would like to see what is and could be available..... But.... Buying a hi priced item to destroy them is not in my plan hahaha
I app. the words James.

I'm wondering about 428's from a Mustang, I have a set or maybe they are 390GT, not sure, and they look like they might fit? I wonder if anyone has tried those in a 57? They wouldn't be the same performance wise as the 427's.
