Title: fe install complete
Post by: Finally1 on 2015-04-22 09:40
Spent last weekend getting my 445 fe and Tko 600 trans installed . Had to rework the z bar and clutch fork a little as well as the trans cross member but everything else went together nicely . Very pleased with her so far now just need some nice weather to enjoy it . Some pics and a couple videos  http://s18.photobucket.com/user/galaxie1_/library/57%20300?sort=3&page=1

It sounds awesome! What headers did you use and was the modification to the Z bar needed because of the headers?

Looks and sounds great!  Are those the FPA headers?  Any fitment issues with them?

They are FPA headers they fit great . I had to narrow my z bar it was suppose to be from a Y block but was the same width as a 223 z bar so Im not sure if it was correct or not . I used a quick time blow proof bell since I had a new TKO 600 so I didn't have to run a Modern driveline adapter . The ball mount I used I believe was from a truck so I just made everything I had work . I am gonna search for a different clutch fork I have a straight one and would be better if I had one with a slight S in it .

For whatever reason, I can't watch the videos.. although I am dying to! I have a stock 390 in my custom now but I have a std bore 428 block, Edelbrock heads, Bluethunder 4V intake, and a Comp 282S solid lifter cam to put together. Looking at a 4.25,  flat tops, stroker kit. I had to modify my clutch zbar engine side bracket slightly for the 390/toploader. I think I have a spare clutch fork, let me know if you want it and I will look. Your car is awesome!

Finally, Looks great man! Question for you, I am putting a 390 in my Fairlane, would you use the pad type 68 motor mount or the y block? And if the Y block, which way is the opening?

I used the y block mount and they only cleared my headers in one direction I will have to look .

Looks like an 8.8..probably has a low gear in it too...  :burnout:

Yes its a 8.8 has 3.55 at the moment plan to go with a 3.90 gear . My Fairlane Gt has 3.89 and love how you feel the torque all the way through the gears . I had Mosier narrow it a little more than the stock rearend so I could run a deep dish wheel and also gave them the stock backing plates when making it so it still runs factory brakes on the rear . I have put near 600hp through a 8.8 and the parts are easier and cheaper to find plus I can set it up never had any luck with a 9 inch .
