Title: 292 head gasket
Post by: flatbedfred on 2024-03-03 10:13
I am starting to put my 292 back together on my in place rebuild. I was inspecting the head gaskets that I bought in a head set. There are several holes to do with coolant flow, fairly near the top of the cylinders. My old gasket, the block and the head have large holes. The new head gaskets have little 1/4" holes instead of large ones. I am thinking that I probably should buy another set of head gaskets. I am looking for some advice here.

The Best Gaskets brand are the current favorite among Y-block builders, since the Fel-pro gaskets tend to be prone to coolant leaks. I've never heard any mention of problems with the coolant passage hole size with them.
Do you know which brand you have?

It was a bargain priced set from a vendor on Ebay. I also discovered that there were two large coolant holes missing! Thank you for the advice about Best Gasket. They are the only folks that made a rope seal that works on my old Chevy six.
