Steering column mast

What is a steering column mast?

The mast is the part that covers the steering shaft that comes out of the steering gear box. The turn signal switch is at the top off it & the gear shift control (hockey stick) also attaches to it. "Mast" is just what I've seen others call it.

Do you need a stick or automatic, I may have one.
