I have two transmission that are both supposed to be for 1957 Custom 312. One of them has a vacuum modulator and one doesn't, are the Ford-O-matic and Cruse-O-matic the same?
The one with the vacuum modulator is supposed to be rebuilt but the is no pin under the modulator so I'll need to find a pin for that transmission. Either new or used and so far I can't find a part number or ID what the trans is.
TIA, Edd
Ford o lactic has no vacuum mod. It's shift controlled by the rod on throttle bellcrank. Sort of like a hydraulic TV cable.
Cruise O. Is a later version.
The ID plate should be a red oval on the driver side near the middle.
Also measuring the main body of the unit can give you into.

I have two transmissions one with the modulator one w/o. The w/o is in the car and the one with was supposed to be a 57 Ford. The one w/ has a broken lever just outside the case that controls the shift. I may need to get pictures, this is the w/o and the upper lever in this is broken off on the other.

That tag might be a Fordomatic
I forget where I got info. I think on the fatsco transmission site. But I believe mine is a PAZ small case ford-o
The cruise-o might be a slightly longer case.
If you are rebuilding I would go with the Cruise-o matic.
