I recently did this.
Basically you need a clip on the inside side of the dash wheee the dogleg comes out to the windshield corner.  I found what are soft belt ends that have teeth.  I got a baggy of them  on Amazon

On my project I started with the bottom front and then went up the dash.
I used a plastic scraper to push in the windlace and then around the inside I felt for the edge and crimson of those belt pieces on to it.  I did it in two spots and it has help up.

FYI.  The windlace I got was all solf and I sowed in some card material about .75" wide on to it in some sections so it can have something to grab onto.

Thanks for reply. The stock wind lace clips (box shaped with 2 barbs) are in original location and in good condition. I assume  as long as they are there, wind lace can pushed in between dash and body with thin plastic tool. Is this right? Thanks

Abe, could you post a photo of the "soft belt ends that have teeth" and possibly the Amazon listing as well, so we can see exactly what you are describing.
Thanks
John

Thanks Gasman.  You mentioned that wind lace must have wire reenforcing to work with OEM clip and is hard to find. Is this wire sewn in the tail (flaps) of wind lace or in rubber core, and what kind if wire is it? Car was missing it. Thanks

I've only seen scraps of OE windlace.  I would guess the wire is sewn into the tails of the windlace.  No matter how careful everyone gets in/out of the car, the kick panel and 'knee banger' areas get bumped hard enough to pull out.  Grand kids getting in/out of Tudor rear seats can often get a little abuse and pull out.  The OE metal clips are not common.  If found, they are expensive.  My car is custom so it didn't matter if I updated the windlace install system.  You know:  do it right the first time...bla, bla, bla.

The wire in the windlace onto need to be in a few sections.  Also the little leg on the clip breaks easily so be careful folding them back.
My wife helped sew in the windlace to the headliner in the door top area.  You kind of sew it to the headliner. But you need to make sure you have attached the outer corners first.

I used these.  For the behind the dash area.  I think you can use them in other areas.

Also. If you were to sew in the car stock.  You only need it in a few spots.
It's also difficult to actually install-sew onto the windlace.

Sew windlace to headliner? I can't imagine the frustrations and amount of work in getting that to look good.I really think you need to look at the old threads on the way Gasman and I both did it.
Here's another link to mine..just scroll to the top when it opens.

Since the over-the-door headliner retainers for '57 Fords are usually very rusty or just plain missing and are very hard to find, I've used retainers from other makes.  Link is to an eBay listing (just as an example!!):
