Looking for a reasonable core 1-1/8" master cylinder for a power brake setup. I can rebuild it.
Let me know what you got.
The car I'm working on has power brakes but they must have not been able to find the right master. And it has a 1" bore and it crusty inside.
If no luck here, I would check the salvage yards in your area specializing in Ford stuff. I believe 2002 and newer Mustang GTs and Cobras had 1 1/8 masters, but on a hydroboost, not sure if the masters were different for those.
Rich I have one of those on another 57 and it's just ok. I rather have the original. I have looked past it and left them on and pulled just the brake side.
You can bore a one inch and put a new style kit in it. Just start with a good one inch. I just gave the last nos one I had to a friend in Saint Lewis. sorry
Ray I was thinking about doing that exact thing, but Im seeing that 1" can used for both, I'll run what I have and see how it goes.
As long as you don't need the embossed 1 1/8 on the cylinder it shouldn't be a problem. Just keep in mind that that bellows system is really crappy. If you have no originality concerns it would be a lot better to run the '56 pass/55 to 57 t-bird fender mounted unit. Based on experience.
I may have an extra. Will check at the shop tomorrow.
I have a brand new corvette master cylinder (like used on 63-67) that I was going to use on my streetrod, but I do not have cleareance. I often wonder if I can use that on my 57.
I went ahead used the old one. Joked it out and dropped and knew kit it.
Gene please report back or post pics of the mount.
The one I have has two ports on each side, so I can easily mount my brake light switch.
I sent one out to a company in FL. that does masters and boosters they bored it out and put a sleeve in it i think a stainless sleeve
