I believe I have all the air out of my brake system but really have to stand on the pedal to get the car to stop. I want to re-bleed the brakes with the motor running using the ps pump.
Is there a bleeder valve on the hydro boost? I feel that I'm not getting any assist from the hydro boost. Perhaps there's air in the that system.
After checking the hydro boost I'll need to bleed the ps system. Is the correct procedure, for that, to elevate the front and rock the wheel from lock to lock?
TIA, Terry
Did the Hydro-Boost work before or is this the first start up?
I've switched to disks all around, ran new break lines, and installed the hydro boost.
This is the first start up. I should say first attempt to stop the car. The brake lines have been bled until no more bubbles were coming out. I have some brakes but they are not sufficient and seem to lack ps.
I want to bleed the hydro boost and ps to see if that helps and if not, bleed the brakes again with the motor running.
Are the PS pump to booster lines reversed?
We have to keep in mind that we are actually dealing with bleeding TWO systems.
When I set mine up, I had a stainless ps reservoir made with two return ports, one for the ps rack, and one for the hydroboost. Some systems just used a "Y", so my questions are....what did you do for that, and are you using a ps box or rack and pinion? My rack and pinion setup is self bleeding, so at least for me, what you described with the lock to lock is the correct way, but also can be done in a parking lot doing figure 8's..
When it is set up correctly, when you start the car with your foot on the brake pedal, it should "Bump" your foot a little.
brake lines: The master cylinder on mine has two bleed valves, and after attempted bleeding for hours doing one bleed valve at a time, I finally made a brake fluid jar with two holes/hoses so I could bleed both at the same time. That did the trick for me, maybe coincidence, but......
I may have part of the problem solved. I found that the ps reservoir was low. I now have lots of both ps and pb.
After running the car for a little while the used pump began to make noise. Things seem to be working correctly just has the noise. I'll have to replace the pump with a new one now that I know it's working.
For more information I installed ps system, steering box and column from a full size 62 Ford. In my application I used a "T" in the return line. Perhaps I should use a "y" or get a pump with two returns.
I still haven't figured out how to bleed the hydro boost but it seems to be working.
Thank you for the responses.
The hydra-boost is self bleeding. Oil passes through it to the power steering. Power racks self-bleed. Steering boxes and slave systems usually need to be cycled a couple of times. Hydra-boosters are not stand-alone and must be combined with a power steering system.
Thank you. I looked for a way to bleed the hydro boost but never found a port. I found online where a fellow was bleeding the hydro boost. He must have taken the return line and put a clear line into the ps reservoir

I have no idea why BUT the lines always seem to be reversed. I checked mine over and aver again, called, bitched got angry.... it was the NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL :002:

I labeled the ports and ran the lines as labeled. After adding ps fluid things seemed to work well.

One has to use the correct called-out hydraulic fluid for both the pump, booster unit and box\rack.
When bleeding a system wheel lock to wheel lock, do not turn steering wheel hard against stop or hold it there, it will only aerate the fluid.
If pump won't bleed, there are available vacuum draw tools to pull the aeration out.
If you use a take-off unit, you need to find that model year WSM to get specifics such as minimum/maximum needed pump pressure and unit output pressure (need pressure gauge) (also needed minimum box/rack pressure.
The unit may have to be rebuilt if not delivering the correct output pressure.
