Title: Drive line
Post by: Edd505 on 2026-07-01 15:40
Looking for a stock drive line for a 58 Custom I'm working on.  I looked at haveing one made $600-$800 for new.  The car has the stock 9" rear and needs to marry to a 95 Mustang 5sp trans.  Got the engine running last week now I need the drive line.  I believe the 57 -59 are the same if I'm wrong please let me know so I don't go the wrong way.  (missing when purchased yes it has  57 clip)

Might as well post your location.

One of the cars I recently got was way messed with and will be looking for stock driveline also at some point, that's if it vibrates a lot. . Make sure the drive line is off the same style body or close not the longer  Victoria or club coupe. Check the wheel base as that might affect length.

Tremec transmission is longer than OE manual transmission.  The yoke on the transmission end is different.

I know I would need to change the yoke but I need something to start with I have the Ford 9" rear.  Currently I have none and was looking for something.  Ant suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'd get the slip yoke for the transmission and then measure center of u-joint to center of u-joint at ride height.  Subtract an inch.  Then you have a measurement to go shopping for an existing drive shaft.  On my wagon with Windsor, AOD and long rear yoke, an aluminum, Crown VIC PI shaft fit perfect and had 1350 joints to boot.

Thank you this is exactly the info I was looking for as I have never had to find a custom drive-line.

My Custom has a 4.6 DOHC, 4r70w trans, and an UNALTERED aluminum driveshaft from the same donor 95 Lincoln Mark VIII. I did get a 1" taller differential yoke that made the driveshaft perfect. I believe the differential yokes, being for the famous 9", are available in different heights as well as u-joint design.

I have the 9" and need to marry the drive to the Tremec T5 from a 95 Mustang in the 58 body.
