If you are a NSRA member, the October issue of "Streetscene", has my '33 Ford 3 Window Coupe on the cover.
Just behind it, in the photo, is my '63 Studebaker Avanti,(that I've owned for 54 years) being driven by my son as we drove into the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, in early August.
The odds are 1 in 9000, as there were about 9000 cars registered, and they all enter through one gate. Pure luck, I had nothing to do with it, but certainly enjoy it.
I'd post a photo of the cover, but I don't know how to do it!
John
Send me the photo and I'll post it for you.
John, I just googled it and saw the cover. Nice!
(The odds are 1 in 9000, as there were about 9000 cars registered, and they all enter through one gate.)
and they all want to get in at the same time!
the cover pic I found , NICE !!!
How do you guys like NSRA, as opposed to good-guys? Louisville event, vs Columbus? Columbus is schorching
Thanks for finding the cover photo and posting it. I do appreciate it
John
As a NSRA "lifer" (my number is in the low 800s) I'm partial to them. I like their safety program, would like to see them not give awards to cars that don't legitimately pass. Tried twice via correspondence with the leaders and was told "it would lower participation", not sure of the cause/effect tie there. Both shows cater to the high-end folks (IMHO) and tend to overlook the home builder. With a touch over 147K miles on the 36 it has it's share of road rash, built in the 70s (on the road in 1980) it is well worn and has been very reliable. Oh, forgot to mention it is a 36 Chevy with a complete Ford drive train.....

Educate me here as I don't know ...
Legitimately pass?
Do the rules call for tagged and street driven (no trailer queens)?
I'm pretty sure what Bill was refering to was the NSRA safety inspection you can get for your street rod if you want it. They have a great inspection criteria. There are 23 items they check. If you pass the first group (16 items?) you get a safety inspection sticker. If you pass all 23, you get a safety 23 inspection sticker........I considered mine a badge of honor. Goodguys does not have a similar program, and they should imho..
OK, one answer so far...
I have been a 23 participant since it's inception. I display the sticker with pride. The program was initially put it place to "help/guide" us to keep the "hot rods" out of the local news due to simple mechanical failures. It was also there to help states when they were passing laws that would have been harmful to the hobby. It is a voluntary program, my point was many pubs, and yes the NSRA, were featuring cars that would not pass the fundamental 16 never mind the 23. I have always believed that it is most prudent to "police" ourselves rather than waiting on someone else do it for us!
Well said Bill, I agree.
John took the words right out of my mouth. Well said.
!!! AGREED !!!
