Title: Floor pan replacement
Post by: Frankenstein57 on 2007-02-11 19:51
I'm currently starting to replace my floor pans in a 57 ranchero, I'm replacing the hinge pockets, the front and rear floor pans, and toe boards.
Has anyone had experience overlapping the seams or butting the seams before welding? On Rick Wurthit's designs web page he has a nice step by step 57 floor pan replacement. He draws his pattern and cuts one half inch inside the line on the old floor, but never states whether he leaves the half inch overlap or trims to a butt weld.

Thanks for your help,
Mark

I used EMS floor pans to replace all four for the Ranchero.  The only overlap was where the lip would accept and over lay such as the rear over the front. If you have the pans you will know what I'm talking about.  This was my first time at floor pans but guided by "what to do" by a professional car builder an friend.  I would estimate I had 60-80 hours fitting the pans making several cuts "sneaking" up on the fit.

I started with the passenger front. after it was perfect I bolted it in place.  It would now be the go buy for the rear.  When it was perfect then the driver rear and so forth.    Good luck, r

I also have the ems pans, nice stuff.  I purchased some cheap pans at FRPS, but sent some parts back do to poor coverage. That saying you get what you pay for, what was I  :dumbass:thinking. Once again, thanks for the help guys, Mark
