Title: Factory A/C
Post by: Ford Blue blood on 2010-04-03 23:12
So I have the repair manual for the 57, have the supplimental for the retractable roof but can't find a word about factory A/C anywhere.  Is there yet another manual for the A/C or was it serviced from bullitens?

If anyone out there has factory air I sure could use some pictures to help with correct under hood hook up and colors.  Thanks much, Bill

Bill, I have a reproduction electrical manual for the 57. It has several pages dedicated to the ac system wiring and layout. It also has a section on the model 51 retractable roof, electric windows. I don't have it at home, its at the shop. Mark

Thanks Mark, does it have pictures etc. or just the standard "factory" configured drawings like the manual has?  I am missing a couple of items and would like to know what they look like and how it is all put together.  I have not pulled the unit out of the donor car yet but I am pretty sure it is missing a couple of parts besides the compressor, dryer and condenser.  Have the good stuff, compressor mounting bracket, pullies, dash board vent, under dash unit, short glove box and the blower housing.  Looks like all the wiring is still in place, either that or the previous owners did a mighty fine job wraping a modified harness up. Just like to have as much info as possible before tearing into it.

Its got outline drawings of the components you are wiring, I'll have to check it and see if everything you need is there. Just got home, worked on the car for awhile, then to grandmas for Easter dinner. Mark

Mark I ordered it, thanks for the hook up...in the big picture of things the cost is minimal...can't even fill the lawn mower for that...so even if it don't have all I need it won't hurt anything!

I sure could use a couple of shots!  The lines from the compressor (I think to under the blower) to the passenger compartment and to the front of the car and I need details on the condenser and dryer mounting, all missing from mine.  As I take this car apart most of the A/C will come out after other parts are removed so any pics you can take as things are exposed would go a long way helping me put this back together in my retractable.  My blower housing was butchered as well.  The previous owner cut the side that mounts the air hose from the passenger compartment.  I have not begun looking for anybody that may be able to rebuild or have one but what will work is a plaster of paris mold taken off of one so I can build the thing back myself with fiber glass.  Let me know what you think about that, I know it is a lot to ask......but any help is most appreciated.

Bill, I was working on the ranchero last night, looking at the electrical manual and it has detailed drawings of the ac system. Have you received yours yet?   Mark

Mark I did and it is great!  Answered about every question I had.  Between it and the pictures Doug sent and taking this one apart I now know where I have to go.  Thanks again for the hook up!
Bill
