Title: What is it?
Post by: msfairlane500 on 2007-05-08 20:02
Can anyone give me some idea as to how I can find out if I have a  312 or a 292 Y block Ford motor (1957) without tearing it down.

One way I've done it on other engines is get a piston to TDC, pull a plug and measure how far it goes down,
if you take your time and measure careful it should be the measurement of the stroke. The stroke of the 312 is defenitely longewr that the 292..... check the books. It worked for me on the 429/460 stroke.
good luck, Ron :004:
