hi all, is there a way to check a coil?, how do u know when its bad?, this may be a easy question to answer but i sure don't know how to do it, thanks jerry
Swap with a known good one.
thanks, i knew there was a easy answer. i guess theres no way then
Jerry,
I think what the guys telling you is that unless a current controlled piece of equipment is checked under load there's no way to completely be satisfied of the condition of the windings in the coil. The windings could be shorted to the case only during high voltage operation. In those cases you'd use something we call a Megometer. That would put out thousands of volts thru the windings to enable you to check resistance from case to windings. Putting an ohmeter across the + and - terminals my give you an idea if the windings were open or shorted but to really check out a coil in your garage with relatively few pieces of test equipment is unrealistic. He's right, that's the best way to check out a coil. No foolin. Jim
