Post by: geraldchainsaw on 2013-09-27 10:19
i've never had this happen before, so maybe someone can tell me where to start,    i've been driving the car all summer,  and the other day went to go for a ride,  hit the key,  nothing,  check the battery and theres no charge,  put in a new battery  and don't drive it for 3 or 4 days,  same thing,  hit the key and nothing,  i know its probly a short somewhere,  but i don't even know where to start,  i havn't changed anything,  havn't worked on anything,  any ideas out there?,   thanks    jerry

Maybe the generator/alternator went out, check the voltage at the battery with it running, should be around 14V..

Turn off all of the switches and then shut the engine off, then disconnect a battery cable then touch it back on the battery terminal.  Look for a spark.  If there is a spark, now you have to very carefully check all of the components one at a time to find the problem.
Electric problems are usually easy to repair, but hard to find.
